Pro-Line Rotary Phase Converters
Pro-Line Rotary Phase Converters and Smart-Boost™ Digital Rotary Phase Converters for sale built by North America Phase Converter Co. are two of the most common and finest universal rotary phase converters on the market today. What is a Single-Phase to 3-Phase Rotary Phase Converter? A rotary phase converter kit uses an induction generator (sometimes referred to as an idler motor) to produce 3-phase power. In addition, the 2 single-phase lines are used to energize the induction generator; in turn the induction generator produces the 3rd line of power (voltage). Therefore this 3rd line of power is joined together with the single-phase lines to make 3-phase power.

Every rotary phase converter needs a starting mechanism. The Pro-Line includes one built in as a standard feature, saving you the cost and hassle of purchasing a separate motor starter. The start/stop switch is mounted on the front of the control panel, where it’s easy to reach.
- Self-contained magnetic three-phase motor starter included as standard
- Start/stop switch mounted on the front of the panel for easy access
- No separate starter required, saving you time and money
The Pro-Line uses the latest solid-state technology to control and protect the start circuit. A patented differential-voltage-sensing system monitors the start sequence and makes sure everything is operating correctly before the converter comes online. This digitally controlled start circuit is exclusive to Pro-Line.
- Patented differential voltage sensing for precise start control
- Built-in safety timer automatically times out to prevent capacitor failure
- Exclusive technology, not available on any other rotary phase converter
In the event of a power outage or loss, the Pro-Line shuts down all three power legs simultaneously. Some competing brands only shut down the generated leg, which can cause single phasing when power returns and damage your motors and equipment. The Pro-Line eliminates that risk entirely.
- Shuts down all three legs of power simultaneously during a power loss
- Protects motors and equipment from single phasing when power returns
- Competing brands often only cut the generated leg, leaving your equipment at risk
Running a CNC machine on unbalanced power can cause control errors, overheating, and premature motor failure. The Pro-Line is designed specifically to prevent that from happening, delivering clean and balanced power that meets the requirements of even the most sensitive CNC controls.
- Voltage balanced phase-to-phase to within 5% or better
- Widest CNC voltage-balanced range available in a rotary phase converter
- Suitable for CNC mills, CNC lathes, machining centers, and other precision equipment
Shops are noisy places. It’s not always easy to tell if your phase converter is running just by listening. The Pro-Line includes a bright indicator light on the front panel that provides instant visual confirmation that the unit is powered on and ready to go.
- Bright indicator light mounted on the front of the control panel
- Instant visual confirmation that the converter is powered and running
- Useful in loud shop environments where you cannot rely on sound alone
The Pro-Line control panel is designed to make installation as straightforward as possible. The removable back plate lets you pre-wire the panel before mounting it on the wall, which makes the job much easier, especially if you’re working alone.
- Removable back plate for easy pre-wiring before wall mounting
- Terminal block connections make wiring clean, fast, and secure
- Knockouts on the bottom and right side accommodate most conduit routing needs
- No special tools or complicated wiring required
Connecting your wiring to the Pro-Line is simple. Generously oversized power distribution blocks give you plenty of room to work, and the clean internal layout makes future inspections and troubleshooting easy.
- Oversized power distribution blocks for easy wire termination
- Strip, place, and tighten, no special connectors required
- Clean internal layout makes inspections and future troubleshooting straightforward
The Pro-Line is designed and built in New Berlin, Wisconsin. The control panels are manufactured in a UL 508A-listed panel shop, which means they’re built to a recognized standard for industrial control panels. Buying a Pro-Line means buying American-made quality, backed by people you can actually call.
- Designed and built in New Berlin, Wisconsin
- UL 508A-listed panel shop construction meets recognized industrial standards
- DIN rail-mounted components and twist-and-release capacitors for a clean, organized interior
- Easy to inspect, whether you are an electrician or a code inspector
The idler generator motor is the heart of any rotary phase converter. The Pro-Line uses purpose-built motors from ABB/Baldor in the USA, specifically wound for phase conversion. These are not standard off-the-shelf motors adapted for the job.
- Soft start built in, reducing inrush current and protecting connected equipment
- Low impedance, high efficiency design for better phase balance and less heat
- ISR magnetic windings are immune to voltage spikes common in shop environments
- ODP standard, TEFC available for wet or dusty environments
- Sealed bearings, no greasing or maintenance required
- Custom copper windings and rotor for maximum efficiency and long service life

Pro-Line Rotary Phase Converter FAQs
Pro-Line rotary phase converters range from smaller units commonly used in residential applications to large industrial models rated up to 100 HP. The price depends on the HP rating and any selected upgrades. Our smallest Pro-Line unit starts at $639 for the standard model, moving up to $10,424 for the largest model. NAPCco offers a best price guarantee – we will beat any comparable USA-made rotary phase converter price by 10%.
Correct sizing depends on your load type, HP or amperage rating, equipment age, and whether you are running a single machine or multiple machines at the same time.
Use the Quick Sizing Chart and sizing selector as a starting point, then call our application engineers at 877-545-2926 to verify your size. Every order includes a free sizing confirmation, and our sizing guarantee means we will replace the unit and cover shipping both ways if we get it wrong.
There are four rotary phase converter lines to choose from. The Pro-Line is the general-purpose option that handles the widest range of applications. The Smart-Boost™ uses a digital current booster to power hard-starting and high-inertia loads such as air compressors and submersible pumps. The Smart-Phase adds 8-stage automatic voltage regulation for CNC machines, VFDs, and other electronics-heavy equipment. If you have your own idler motor, the Control Panel line allows you to create a full rotary phase converter.
A rotary phase converter lets you run three-phase equipment from a standard single-phase power supply, without the cost or delay of a utility upgrade. It’s one of the most cost-effective ways to get three-phase power to your shop or facility. NAPCco’s rotary phase converters run your machines at full rated power with no load restrictions and can power an entire shop from a single unit. Each converter carries a lifetime labor warranty, require little maintenance, and has an average lifespan of 30+ years.
A rotary phase converter uses an idler generator to produce a third electrical leg from a standard single-phase power supply. The two incoming single-phase lines energize the idler, which then generates the third line of power. All three lines are combined to produce balanced three-phase power for your equipment, no utility upgrade required.
A correctly sized Pro-Line will run virtually any three-phase equipment: CNC mills and lathes, Bridgeport mills, table saws, wide belt sanders, dough mixers, drill presses, grinders, woodworking machinery, and most other motor, resistive, and inductive loads. The Pro-Line won’t change input voltage. If your equipment requires 480V but your supply is 240V single-phase, a step-up transformer is also needed.
